Step 0 - Patch Test
A patch test is a small colour amount applied to the skin and should be done at least 48 hours before your scheduled colour appointment.
This quick procedure helps us identify any potential allergic reactions to the products we use, ensuring your safety and comfort during the full treatment.
Having colour done with TopOne frequently, means patch tests are not needed unless you have not had colour with us for at least 6 months

Step 2 - Colour Process
After the consultation we proceed with the application.
Bleach
Bleaching is a lightening process that helps lift the natural pigement of the hair, allowing you to achieve a brighter or more vibrant colour such as blonde, white, light blue etc.
Permanent Colour
High lifting with Permanent colour only works with goal of having a warmth colour e.g. medium brown, brown, mahgony, red etc

Step 3 - Washing Colour Process
Bleach
The bleaching process removed the colour pigment inside the hair and then the replacement needed for this is a toner. Hence why you see a light colour, example: its like an egg but with no yolk
Permanent Colour
The colour is lifted so only some of pigment is removed and replaced with the Permanent Colour hence why you see a change in colour (used to cover grey hair)

Step 4 - Seal and Care (Bleach Only)
Bleach
Even though we washed all the bleach off, it still has a high PH ammonia of 10-11, meaning the cuticles stay open and exposed whilst also maintaing some bleach in the Hair
To avoid further damages to the hair we apply a Seal and Care that effectivily brings the PH of the hair back to normal which is 4.5-5.5.

Step 5 - Toner (Bleach Only)
Bleach
The toner is applied to the hair after the bleach process to neutralize any unwanted tones and achieve a more precise shade.
NOTE: If the hair was Box Dyed the bleach may not have lifted the hair to the expected level hence why the professional may recommend an alternative option.

Summary

Colour Overview
Great colour starts with a proper consultation. We look at your hair history, goal shade, maintenance preference and hair health—then choose the right path: bleach + toner for bigger lifts, or permanent colour for grey coverage and warmer/darker changes.
Consultation is everything
Your hair history (especially previous colour or box dye), lifestyle and maintenance goals shape the plan. The better the conversation, the better the result—and the safer the journey for your hair.
Bleach + toner vs permanent colour
Bleach is used when we need significant lift to go much lighter, then we refine tone with a toner.
Permanent colour is best for covering greys or going warmer/darker, and usually lifts only 1–2 levels.

Why box dye changes the plan
Box dye can contain pigments/fillers that don’t lift evenly. If we know about it early, we can plan a safer path and set realistic expectations (sometimes it takes more than one visit).
Hair health and “seal & care”
Lightening can stress the hair. After bleach we often use processes that help rebalance the hair and reduce ongoing damage so your hair feels better and the result looks cleaner.
Hair Colour FAQ
Do I need a patch test for hair colour?
If you’re new to colour with us (or it’s been a while), a patch test is done at least 48 hours before your appointment. If you have colour frequently with TopOne, patch tests usually aren’t needed unless it’s been 6+ months since your last colour or your health/products have changed.
What’s the difference between bleach and permanent colour?
Bleach lifts the natural pigment to go significantly lighter, then a toner is used to refine the shade. Permanent colour is best for covering greys or going warmer/darker, and typically lifts only a little.
Why do you ask about box dye?
Box dye can contain pigments/fillers that are harder to remove evenly. If we know your hair history, we can plan the safest path to your goal and set realistic expectations from the start.
Will colour damage my hair?
Any lightening process can stress the hair, but we minimise damage with careful application, the right products, and processes like seal-and-care after bleach. Your hair history and condition matter a lot, which is why consultation is key.
How do I maintain my colour at home?
We’ll recommend the right shampoo/conditioner and (if needed) toning products. Heat protection and regular conditioning help your colour stay vibrant and your hair stay healthy between visits.
